The San Diego Union-Tribune: End of Life Options Act Panel with Senator Blakespear
Our Co-Founder and CEO, Elizabeth Uslander, MSW, MTS, joined Senator Blakespear and other panel experts at MiraCosta College on December 4th to discuss the End of Life Options Act in California. Over 700 people joined in to listen and learn. One of the options discussed in this important town hall meeting was Medical Aid in Dying, otherwise known as MAiD. For those who are eligible and can administer medication themselves, MAiD is an option available for people in California to choose the right to end their life on their terms.
In this article written by Luke Harold at The San Diego Union-Tribune, Elizabeth says, “I started doing research, and I was surprised to find that the data pointed to overwhelmingly positive outcomes for patients who accessed the option and for the families in their bereavement journeys.” Despite positive outcomes for patients and their families, the healthcare industry is slow to embrace the End of Life Options Act. This makes it difficult for people in California to make informed decisions about their End of Life journey.
